Desktop, hosts and the extension

Install the desktop app

Run your agents on your own hardware.

About 4 minutes

The desktop app runs your agents on your own machine, so the work happens on hardware you control.

Requirements

macOS 12 (Monterey) or later. It is a universal build — Apple Silicon and Intel — signed and notarized by Apple.

Steps

  1. Go to the download page and get Foreman.dmg.
  2. Open it and drag Foreman to Applications.
  3. Launch it and sign in with the account you already use.
  4. Leave it running. It is the host; a closed app is a host that is not there.

You're done when the app is signed in and shows your workspace.

What changes once it is installed

Studio projects can run on your machine, with files on your own disk that you can open in your editor. Work executes locally rather than on someone else's hardware.

Gotchas

  • Signing in on desktop does not move your data locally. Your workspace stays where it is; the desktop app is an execution host and a client, not a copy.
  • macOS may ask for permissions on first launch. Those are for running local processes and serving previews.
